I had to break out the Nirvana pajamas for this one.
Silverchair did get labelled “Nirvana in pajamas” back in the day, after all. Finally got the song recorded and went directly to bed!
I worked this one out using the isolated guitar track and picked out everything as closely as I could from there. One interesting thing I noticed is that some of the stops are notated as muted guitar hits, but when I went back and listened to the final studio mix, it sounds like some of those may have been muted out during the mix. So in a few spots you might see me stopping completely rather than playing the pick rake or muted hits.
For the solo, I stayed as close as I could to the way Daniel Johns played it, while adding a little of my own style to it, including a touch of delay. I have to say, I’m really impressed with Johns’ phrasing on this solo, especially considering how young he was when he recorded it. It’s a very simple solo, but incredibly effective and really nicely phrased, in my opinion.
Hope you guys enjoy this one!
