I am not a flat picker, so my tone will naturally be a little different from Jimmy Page. I did spend a lot of time with the isolated tracks and picked out every note as accurately as I possibly could. Everything here is played raw, and I’m happy with how close I have it without any edits or quantizing.
I wanted to keep the feel natural and honest, the same way the original feels very real and unpolished in the best way.
John Paul Jones is an incredible mandolin player. I do not play mandolin on a regular basis, and did my best to keep it true to the original recording.
I also decided not to change any of the strings on my instruments because I wanted that slightly worn in sound that suits this tune. My fingers sweat constantly, so you might see some sweat on the fretboard, and even with Elixir strings they eventually rust on me anyway. New strings would have been too bright and would have taken away from the vibe, so I kept everything as it was and played it the way I felt Page might have approached it with an older instrument.
Hope you enjoy the video and the tabs! I loved putting this one together.
