Incredibly underrated guitar solo. When I first heard this song as a kid, it immediately inspired me to pick up a guitar and learn it!
This video is sponsored by PRS Guitars. The guitar featured here is a PRS SE Custom 24, and it was absolutely perfect for this style of song. It feels and sounds amazing, and the finish is absolutely beautiful. PRS offers SE versions of their higher-end models, and this is a very affordable option for budding guitarists or anyone looking for a solid, versatile instrument.
This is my interpretation based on what I hear and from watching Ross perform it live — all the positioning matches what I’ve seen him play. I noticed that Ross Childress uses tap harmonics live in the intro of “Gel.” Maybe it’s just for show, or maybe he actually plays them in the studio — though if he does, they’re buried deep in the mix. So I decided to include both what I hear in the studio recording and what he plays live. You can choose whichever version you prefer when performing the song.
