Train Kept a Rollin'

By: Aerosmith

This might honestly be my favorite Aerosmith track to play.

I’ve heard the original guitar used P90 pickups, so I tracked down a local builder and ended up using the very first guitar he ever made. It’s a Phillips guitar, and I thought it was a perfect fit for the song.

In the intro, I think the original recording uses a subtle whammy bar dip that you can hear in the studio version. My guitar doesn’t have a whammy bar, so I wasn’t able to recreate that effect.

Later in the song, around measure 111 during the pull off section, I used my picking hand to bend the string behind the nut to get the pitch movement instead.

In measure 99, one quick note. I had to punch in a note that rang out a little more because the initial take choked out on camera.

The studio recording naturally had that sustained feedback, but that is tough to recreate with an amp simulator.

This video was sponsored by AIAIAI (pronounced eye eye eye), who sent me these wireless headphones and wireless studio monitors.

This was such a fun one to learn! There are so many great lead moments, and I’m always up for pentatonic blues style solos.

Isolated TRACKS (mp3)

Here are the drums, bass and other background tracks to jam along to Train Kept a Rollin'. I've also included all of my isolated guitar tracks in case you really want to hear what's going on. Isolated tracks are normally very difficult to find online, and can be very helpful in cracking a difficult solo tab.
