This is a tab cover of a cover of a cover — The Black Crowes’ version of “Hard to Handle”, originally written by Otis Redding. What makes this video especially meaningful is that it’s a collaboration with an old bandmate and great friend of mine, Darrin Martin. We used to play together in a cover band called Pleasure Stone — and that Black Beauty guitar you see in this video? I used to play it back in those days. I eventually sold it to Darrin years ago… but when we recently reconnected, we did a little trade — I swapped him one of my Donner beginner guitars plus a bit of cash (obviously, lol) — and now the Black Beauty is back in my hands where it belongs. Aside from being a killer singer, Darrin is also an incredible visual artist. He runs a business called Northside Studios, where he sells his original art. You can check out his work — the links are in the description. Support his stuff if you dig it! As for the song itself: I wanted to capture the energy of the two rhythm guitars in this version because they complement each other so well and mesh beautifully with the Hammond organ and piano. That’s why you’ll see both parts being played for most of the video — except during the solos, which I decided to push up in the mix just a bit. The vocals might come off a bit louder to some ears — but honestly, I was loving the vibe, and Darrin really made this one his own. I think it added something special. Hope you enjoy learning this one — let me know what you think in the comments! And yes, more challenging songs are on the way, including the one many of you requested: Megadeth – “Peace Sells”.
